Hi Everyone,
We’re taking a dip into The New Kitchen Mystic again this week, in celebration of one of the most universal, user-friendly prayers on the planet:
The Serenity Prayer.
This prayer has long been the staple wisdom of every flavor of 12 Step program that there is, but I think it has so much to offer to any human being who wants to have a better day than you might otherwise be having.
So, if you weren’t fortunate enough to get all banged up and bottomed out on a terrible addiction of some kind and end up in a mandatory 12 Step meeting, this is your chance to belong to the club anyway.
The Serenity Club. You’re human, and it isn’t easy to be human for anyone, is it?
I invite you, our listeners, to join the Serenity Club, whenever things are feeling overwhelming or unpleasantly not within your control, and you are about to embark on being the worst version of yourself. Instead, put this complementary 12 Steps hat on, and say one of those sunny and simple slogans:
One day at a time. Keep it simple. Easy does it. Let go and let God. It works if you work it. The 12 Step way is simple – but not simplistic! – and sunny, and sustaining. And the Serenity Prayer guides us in relaxing into acceptance, and taking charge of what we can, and being able to know what’s what. Welcome to the club!
God, grant me the serenity to
accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Peace,
Mary & Erin
EPISODE 139: The Serenity Prayer – It’s all there!
Are you tense, anxious, and more wound up about your life situation than you should be? Are you having a “trying” time?
Stop trying, and instead… Sit right down. Breathe. Clear your mind, and whisper The Serenity Prayer.
God, grant me the serenity to
accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
The Serenity Prayer is a global prayer that contains everything; it’s where the wisdom of East and West meet.
It guides you to see clearly. Do I need to relax and accept something? Or do I need to seize the courage to change something?
Where is my “wisdom to know the difference?”
Sometimes, the magic medicine to improve your experience of your life situation is to do BOTH: see the good in what is, and accept it. AND make a solid movement with your will to make a change for the better.
How does one live “one day at a time?”
(Hint: you can ONLY manage one day at time; it is illusion to think that we can do any better than that!)
Enjoy the story of how Mary walked herself out of worry and chaos and into peace of mind by just thinking about this one day.
And what about this “letting go and letting God” concept? Erin shares an experience about that. (And nobody got frostbite.)
Enjoy your day! Just this one. It works if you work it.
